The 411: Colored Engagement Rings

Most girls have an idea of what their dream engagement ring will look like by their early to mid twenties.  You have seen friends get engaged and checked out what they are rocking on their ring fingers, having picked apart what you like and what you don't.  Are you a classic solitaire kind of girl or are you open to more unique rings?  As we tend to do, let's take a look at celebrities colored engagement rings and maybe that will give you a better idea of what you like. 

The most memorable colored ring for me is that of Jennifer Lopez during her short engagement to Ben Affleck in 2002.  The 6 carat pink diamond was breathtaking, not only because of its size (it was reportedly worth $1.2 million) but it broke the classic engagement ring style yet seemed to fit her perfectly.  The most notable colored ring as of late is that of princess-to-be Kate Middleton.  Her sapphire stunner was the engagement ring of Prince William's mother, Princess Diana, which shows that colored rings have been in style for at least 30 years.  Jodi Sweetin of Full House fame recently got engaged and is rocking a sapphire ring as well.  Jessica Simpson's December engagement brought her a ruby ring complete with two white side diamonds.  Kristen Bell's fiancé certainly wanted her engagement ring to stand out, it is a yellow colored stone surrounded by white diamonds.  And sometimes it is nice to have a truly unique engagement ring paired with a classic wedding band, like Milla Jovovich has on her ring finger.

But colored stones aren't just for engagement rings, Zooey Deschanel has rubies alternating with diamonds on her wedding band.  Obviously celebrities have a much larger bank account with which to purchase these engagement rings.  But if you really like a certain gemstone, maybe your birth stone, don't be afraid to incorporate in the most important piece of jewelry you will ever own.  Enjoy!

Celebrity Weddings: Hide or Seek?

For those of you who are not as wrapped up in all things celebrity gossip as I am, there have been quite a few weddings this year already for the rich & famous.  I wrote about the iconic wedding of Jessica Simpson & Nick Lachey and it is definitely true that celebrity weddings give inspiration to many a bride-to-be, whether celebrities are following or creating trends.  2010 was no different.  Which was your favorite wedding to read about?  There was quite a variety; from the large fan-fare surrounding American "royalty" Chelsea Clinton to the notoriously private Penelope Cruz.  Just like 'regular' brides, some celebrity brides had months of elaborate planning and some planned quickly for a baby on the way.  Some celebs choose to have their weddings covered exclusively by a magazine and some celebrities were able to keep the news secret/ out of the press for few months!

Whatever the style, all couples deserve a wonderful day with their friends & family.  It does make me wonder if I would trade my privacy (and sanity in keeping all my planning secrets/details to myself) for a ginormous celebrity wedding budget.  Sean Penn & Madonna's 1985 wedding was famously covered by paparazzi circling in helicopters.  And that was before the paparazzi became the animals the are today.  So, would you want a lavish & publicly documented wedding or rather sneak away to celebrate with the people that really matter?  And in the same vein, do you like when celebrities share their wedding with the world or keep their big day locked up tight?  Here are some of the weddings that have graced 2010.  Enjoy!

Celebrity Weddings: The One Everyone Remembers

October 26, 2002 is a date you don't remember.  But if you are of my generation (born in the late 70's to early 80's) and you are female, you certainly remember the iconic images of Jessica Simpson's wedding.  I was in college at the time and already an avid collector of bridal magazines.  I actually kept the tear out pages of my collection from high school and college until last year when I realized that these images are online now... and that the pages smelled.  Of the dozens of pages I had kept over the years, I really didn't want to throw these pictures away.  I feel like I have some emotional attachment to these pictures because I can remember so clearly looking at their wedding album in InStyle Weddings issue and knowing without a doubt that I wanted to be a wedding planner.  I wanted to create an amazing day like theirs for other people.

I've seen plenty of celebrity wedding photos over the years and yet the nuptials of Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey will always be on the top of my list.  Which is kind of weird considering that I was never a true fan of Jessica Simpson, her music or her personal life.  And while it was a gorgeous wedding, these are not the colors, theme, dress, or details I imagine for my wedding.  But, I think like many girls my age who saw the same images I did 8 years ago, I was captivated by the glowy perfection and true love radiating from Jess & Nick's big day.   Its like this wedding was the embodiment of what every girl imagined for herself- perfection.  So, while I love your wedding album Jess & Nick, this truly is a case of "its not you, its me".  Enjoy!
